New York, New York – Preparing At-Risk Youth for College

Recognized for increasing the chances that at-risk students will get the training and motivation needed to get into universities and join the nation’s work force by providing guidance counseling and innovative learning strategies.

Maria Olivia Villarreal-Solano, Associate Professor, Department of Social Sciences at the Universidad de Monterrey
Recognized for enlisting local officials, business leaders, and educators to work with counterparts in Mexico at the University of Monterrey and create a program, the Georgia Project, in which bilingual teachers come to Dalton to improve their English, and Georgia instructors visit Monterrey to develop their Spanish language skills.

Harlem, New York – Community Partnerships

Recognized for creating a fruitful partnership that led to the opening of a Pathmark store in Harlem and helped to effect comprehensive neighborhood revitalization through real estate and economic development activity.
