White Oak Report
A message from Laura Durham, Creative
City Program Officer
It has been a while since the last edition of the Creative City
online newsletter, but we all have been quite busy in the interlude.
I hope you all have made it happily through the winter and are
enjoying spring in all its stages of arrival (some of us have
had it for a few weeks, and some of us are still waiting!)
This issue of the newsletter covers many issues that we have
been undertaking as a group. Our issue in focus for this edition
revolves around branding and marketing our cities and communities.
Many of you have indicated that this is or will be a prominent
theme in your Creative City work, and we would like to provide
a little background as well as some related articles on the
topic. Shelby County, TN and the City of Memphis have been working
quite hard in this area, and are highlighted in our Spotlight
section. There is always a lot going on in Memphis, and I hope
you will all take some time to explore the city. If not in person,
than on line!
Here at Partners we have been busy working on our winter and
spring events. As many of you joined us in Yulee, FL at the
White Oak Plantation, you are aware of our research and public
policy forum Feb. 8-10. There was much to learn from both the
participants and speakers at this event, and we would like to
share the findings with you. Our points of contact have all
received the White Oak findings in the mail, but we are also
making them available here to all Creative City team members.
Please take some time to look them over. We will be spending
some time covering the issue areas highlighted at the forum
when we meet in Louisville April 10-12, and they will help to
form our ongoing research and public policy agenda and publications.
Prior to our gathering at White Oak, Partners hosted our annual
Bridge Builders Awards. Mayor Rout of Shelby County, TN gave
the welcoming remarks, and a few of you were in attendance to
honor the outstanding recipients of this year's awards. For
more information about the Bridge Builders Awards, please follow
this link.
As usual, we have tried to pack this edition of the newsletter
with additional articles of interest, upcoming events, and contact
information for technical assistance. I hope you find it interesting,
and look forward to hearing from you all in the next few weeks. |
