A message from Laura Durham, Creative City Program Officer

As the summer comes to an end, I would like to welcome you to the second issue of the Creative City project newsletter. Much has occurred over the summer and we have lots of news to share. Many of you have been busy outlining your agendas for participation in the project and we have enjoyed our communications in the process. As your work continues, and you plan on implementing your Creative City agendas, I hope you will take the time to look carefully at all this issue has to offer.

Our Issue in Focus for the second edition is "regionalism." This rather broad theme seems to be of concern to many, if not all, of our Creative City participants as you deal with the changes in the economy and how to creatively affect the quality of life in your cities and communities. We will provide a brief summary of the issue, a number of articles on the topic of regionalism, and a closer look at how it is playing out in one of our participating cities as we explore the Bi-State Initiative in Kansas City, MO.

In anticipation of our upcoming Creative City conference Oct. 31-Nov. 2, we will be celebrating the City of Louisville in our "City Highlights" section. We are all looking forward to our visit, hosted by Mayor Armstrong and his team in Louisville. Take a look at what Louisville has been up to, and pack your bags for a great conference!

For those of you interested in the funding side of the Creative City, we are happy to present the work of a Partners for Livable Communities intern. One of our summer interns, Sarah Beller, has written a piece on finding funding on the internet. She focused specifically on areas our Creative City participants would be interested in, and came up with some helpful suggestions to make your search a little easier.

Again, I hope you enjoy the second issue of our Creative City newsletter. Please remember that we have established a discussion board specifically for participants to communicate with each other. This communication is both an important aspect and an essential benefit of your participation in the Creative City project. We are providing you with an opportunity to discuss the issues that interest you, solicit advice, learn from others, ask questions, and share success stories. So far, it is a much under-utilized asset - in fact the only message on the board is from me! Please take a few moments to answer the posted question and/or add any comments, ideas, and stories you might like to share!
