The Honorable Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, Chair of the Historic Landmarks Preservation Center, civic activist, journalist, broadcaster, producer, preservationist, and author of 19 books for her 40-plus years of unbroken public service at the federal, state and local levels. Since her career began she has been at the forefront of helping to make visible the historic built environment of New York City by serving as a leading voice on some of the defining urban issues of our time.

The Honorable Amanda M. Burden, director of the New York City Department of City Planning and chair of the City Planning Commission, for her unparalleled passion for urban design and vision that has held developers to strict design standards benefiting all of New York City.

Dr. Marilyn Perry for her passion for heritage and dedication to the study, enjoyment and protection of important sites that matter to communities and for her career-long contributions as the chair of the World Monuments Fund and president of The Samuel H. Kress Foundation.

Saddle Creek Records president Robb Nansel and label manager Jason Kulbel, co-owners and developers of Saddle Creek complex, for their contributions to Omaha’s music culture and economic development, as seen in their redevelopment project, which has spurred a multimillion-dollar, mixed-use development in a previously depressed north downtown area. Their use of creative assets to strengthen the Omaha, Nebraska, community and build for its future serves as a model for communities throughout the nation.

Gordon Binder, senior fellow at World Wildlife Fund, for his continued dedication and passion in support of conservation of our country's natural resources and in promoting access to clean water in the developing world. He has demonstrated this commitment to the environment in all the capacities in which he has served, from the Environmental Protection Agency to World Wildlife Fund and in his work with other institutions.

Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, for taking a proactive stance in forming local and regional collaborations to address its major issues of significance. From promoting balanced growth and development in its eastern half to investing millions in preservation grants to protect its rural western half to collaborating regionally to preserve its historic Dutch County Roads region, Cumberland County is able to capitalize on its assets as a growing community in a culturally rich setting.

Portland, Maine, (award accepted by Lee Urban, Director of the City of Portland’s Planning and Development Department) for attracting and using the range of economic, cultural and racial diversity present in the Bayside neighborhood as the catalyst and stabilizing factor during its redevelopment and revitalization. Unity Village, a 33-unit, mixed-income housing development, exemplifies the advancements possible when government, residents, civic organizations and private developers unite under a common agenda to reverse negative trends in affordable neighborhoods.

Posthumous Tribute

John Lewis, who earned the nickname “Mr. Fayetteville” for his efforts in the growth and development of his hometown, will be honored with a posthumous Entrepreneurial American Leadership Award for his lifetime of service to the city of Fayetteville and the Northwest Arkansas region.
