Spotlight: El Paso, TX
El Paso is in the midst of a downtown revitalization that is being driven by a number of excited civic boosters and is made complex by the fact that the city is in a unique situation with its proximity to the border and relationship with Ciudad Juarez, right over the border.  The City is hoping to capitalize on the rich culture and heritage of its inhabitants by publicly investing in amenities such as public markets, an Artwalk that will extend across the border, and cultural festivals.  The city recently reopened the Plaza Theater, originally built in the late 1920s as one of the largest theaters in the country, and has been busy marketing it as a new civic attraction.  (Read more about the unique partnership and investment that went into the rebuilding of this theater here) In addition to the many programs directed towards immigrants, El Paso is also concerned with large incoming military and aging populations, and is looking towards smoothly integrating these populations and programs and services for them.
